Preview the animation and compare the downloaded size. Complex GIFs may need a shorter range or smaller dimensions.
How to use GIF Compressor
- Choose the GIF you want to make smaller.
- Start with the fitted dimensions. Reduce width or palette colors; an optional size target may require more changes.
- Preview the animation and compare the downloaded size. Complex GIFs may need a shorter range or smaller dimensions.
What you can do with this tool
- Prepare a GIF for an attachment or a platform with a file-size limit.
- Reduce oversized animations while checking that their timing and transparent edges still look right.
Settings that make a difference
- Reduce width and height first. Halving both dimensions removes three quarters of the canvas pixels, although file-size savings depend on the scene.
- Try 64 or 128 colors before using the smallest palette. Enable Resample frames when you want a different FPS.
- A requested size is a limit, not a promise that every scene can fit. An infeasible target produces directions rather than an invalid download.
Common questions
Can GIF compression keep exactly the same quality?
Reducing dimensions, colors or frames changes the image or motion. Compare the preview and use the least aggressive settings that meet your needs.
How do I compress a GIF below 256 KB?
Enter 256 in Maximum output KB. Reduce dimensions, colors or duration if the editor cannot meet that target. The result is checked against the chosen limit.
Why does my GIF still look too fast?
Set Playback speed to 1 to keep the original pace. Resampling changes the frame schedule; inspect the preview after changing FPS.
Privacy
The editor writes media to a local worker. No media upload endpoint, analytics or ad scripts are implemented. Automated request checks verify no media uploads on the tested processing paths. Cancel terminates the worker; reset releases preview URLs.
